Are you a failure?

Are you a failure?

Most people avoid failing, and at all costs, too.

But maybe this TEDx talk by Keith Peters will remind us to think differently about failing.

How on earth are we going to learn new skills, unless we’re willing to fail as we learn them? Failing isn’t the opposite of success, it’s a crucial component of it.

We need the resilience to fail comfortably – to pick ourselves up and try again. Ask any successful person how they achieved their success.

“I can’t”

Carol Dweck’s reminder to add one little word to the end of a statement describing failure, makes all the difference.

What’s that word?

It’s ‘yet’.

I can’t yet. Because that leaves the way open for me to keep trying until eventually I can.

Yeah, it’s frustrating to struggle and fail – but it’s a necessity. We’ve got to keep going!

Never give up. Never surrender

Fans of Galaxy Quest will already appreciate the power of not giving up. Here’s a little reminder anyway.

The Landmark Forum talks about acting from your commitments, rather than from your feelings. How you feel about things change by the day, or even by the minute (you’ll have noticed the “Ah, shuddup” comment in the above clip) so the only constant will be your commitment to the outcome you’re aiming for.

Are you a failure? Photo of sign: Keep goingIt’s our commitment to keeping on keeping on going that gets us, um… where we’re going.

Maybe sometimes we need to remind ourselves of that.

Especially if we’re not there.
